Fall Conferences

Hello Parents,

As you are signing up for conferences (outside my door) on Monday and Tuesday of Thanksgiving week, I’d like to inform you 4th grade parents and new families about how it works.

You are signing up for a 20 minute conference with me.  During our brief time together, we will be primarily goal setting, generally an academic and a social or learning goal for review when we again meet formally in winter.  I will also give you a written evaluation.  In order for this to work smoothly, you and your child will need to come 20 minutes before your conference to go through, together, your child’s portfolio.  Your child’s portfolio will be outside the room.  Generally, the goals make themselves clear as you view your child’s work and my comments, etc. on the work.

Schoolwork, Homework, Halloween

We’ve been back from Camp Hancock a week; was that a long time ago? I think all, students and parent chaperones, would report that it was a fun, fact-filled, fulfilling field trip. Not frivolous.

ALL students have handed in their Hancock Science Proposal and most have been checked off and you’re ready to go. Projects are due November 5th, that’s a Wednesday. Students will also present their projects to the class.

On Monday, look for scoring guides for both the Hancock Project and Presentation Speaking Work Sample. I showed students samples of posters and games down in recent years so they hopefully, know what to aim for in terms of educational value, layout and artistic design. I am not looking for posters with lots of information; students should explain themselves in their own words, not downloaded information pasted on. These will be laminated, if possible, and displayed both inside and outside our classroom.

How to upload pictures to the Gallery

For those of you who would like to share pictures with the classroom community, you may upload your pictures to Claire’s gallery. I will give you detailed instructions on how to do this below. But in a nutshell, these are the steps you would take:

1. Register as a user of Claire’s Gallery.
2. Login to the Gallery.
3. Create a new photo album or go to an existing one.
4. Upload your pictures.

Camp Hancock

Hello Parents,

As I’m going to be in North Dakota next week and won’t be back until we are all gathered to get into cars and head east, I had a thought about packing.

I will send home another packing list in your child’s cubby this week but basically, it’s camp.  Pack for camp.  Layers, binocs, books, whatever your child needs to get to sleep, a sleeping bag.  You or your child can check off the list.  Something to remember the day of—have your child keep his/her daypack and lunch on the person as luggage probably won’t be accessible until we get to camp.
